Esty Wika Silva
Esty Wika Silva (b.1994)
Silva was born and raised in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, and currently resides and works in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
Her artistic practice explores themes of vulnerability, identity, and the intersection of ecological and social issues. Through embroidery and research-based projects, she navigates personal and collective narratives, often addressing the impact of environmental degradation and its intertwined in daily life/culture.
She is actively engaged in community work. She is also a member of several collectives focusing on ecological justice, politics, social issues, art, culture, and their intersections, with Bakudapan Food Study Group, Sejawat Merawat, and Struggle for Sovereignty.
Through her practices, she tried to unpack the duality between vulnerability and privilege, and her overall positionality as an individual, an artist, and part of the community.
