This work is memories and reflections regarding the transformations that I observed in my home environment of West Kalimantan. When I was a child, I witnessed deforestation on small hillsides, situated amidst expansive oil palm plantations. At that time, I perceived these deforestation activities as governmental initiatives aimed at fostering development and promoting a 'modern' lifestyle that was purported to deliver prosperity and create employment opportunities within our village.
This work not only aims to convey personal observations and reflections but also encourages a critical examination of both past and present circumstances. By engaging in this reflective process, we can better equip ourselves with aspirations and hopes for the future.
