'Hilang Rindang'
(Lost Shade)
Embroidery on fabric

2023
The void left by the absence of shade echoes the broader narrative of deforestation and the erasure of biodiversity, I then try to contemplate the consequences of such losses on the environment and community.
This embroidery work symbolizes the interconnectedness of life and the vibrant cultures that rely on these ecosystems, a dim image evoking the play of light in a thriving forest while simultaneously highlighting the emptiness created by loss.
Through Hilang Rindang, I would like to invites viewers to engage in a reflective dialogue about the relationship between humanity and nature, urging us to acknowledge the fragility of the environment and the cultural narratives intertwined within it. This artwork serves as a heartfelt reminder of what has been sacrificed and calls for a collective effort to rethink what we can do to restore balance and harmony in our surroundings.
Ultimately, Hilang Rindang not only encapsulates the physical loss of shade and greenery but also seeks to reignite a sense of responsibility and connection to the natural world, encouraging us to envision a future where both nature and culture can thrive together once more.
