'Yang Terbelah'

Dimension: 62x46 cm
Medium: Hand embroidery on fabric
Material: Cotton milk, wool

Production Year: 2024

'Yang Terbelah' explores the vulnerability of individuals within a life that is equally fragile. It seeks to narrate and provoke questions about how, in the midst of such vulnerabilities, living beings perceive their fragility and transform it into a process of growth and strength—even when it feels as though the body is being torn apart in the process.

In my daily life, I reflect on a butterfly landing in the yard. From its vulnerability, I come to realize that what I perceive as fragility in life does not always equate to weakness. The interpretation of vulnerability varies from one individual to another, offering textures and dynamics that are often complex and intertwined with one another.

Rather than objectifying vulnerability, this work invites us to understand the diverse and intricate narratives of fragility. How can we begin to untangle and embrace these different threads, finding strength within the vulnerability that defines us and connects us to the world around us?

'Yang Terbelah' is exhibited on 'Hari ini dan Esok', at Sun.contemporary, Bali, and is available for purchase. Please check their website for more info about the exhibition and catalogue.
